In the weeks following the tragic stabbing on Hanukkah in Monsey, there was a dramatic uptick in residents seeking carry pistol permits, presumably for self-defense, should such a horrendous act ever happen again. Though this may sound like a common-sense approach, Rockland County allegedly has denied many residents those permits.
Of the alleged carry pistol permit denial, Rockland County released a statement that reads, “Other than the processing of applications of this type by the County Clerk’s Office, the matter of conceal carry permits rests entirely with the judiciary, not the County administration. As such, we will have no further comment.”
Unsurprisingly, this has led to widespread backlash and protests from various communities within Rockland County, and because of the alleged denial of permits, many residents now plan on suing the county. These protests come from Second Amendment advocates, members of the Orthodox Jewish Community, and the many combat veterans currently residing in Rockland County.
