Rockland County Allegedly Unlawfully Denying Residents Gun Permits

In the weeks following the tragic stabbing on Hanukkah in Monsey, there was a dramatic uptick in residents seeking carry pistol permits, presumably for self-defense, should such a horrendous act ever happen again. Though this may sound like a common-sense approach, Rockland County allegedly has denied many residents those permits.

Of the alleged carry pistol permit denial, Rockland County released a statement that reads, “Other than the processing of applications of this type by the County Clerk’s Office, the matter of conceal carry permits rests entirely with the judiciary, not the County administration. As such, we will have no further comment.”

Unsurprisingly, this has led to widespread backlash and protests from various communities within Rockland County, and because of the alleged denial of permits, many residents now plan on suing the county. These protests come from Second Amendment advocates, members of the Orthodox Jewish Community, and the many combat veterans currently residing in Rockland County.

That being said, if you are someone who has recently been wrongfully denied a carry pistol permit, or your permit has been wrongfully revoked, our firm is here to help. We value and deeply respect the importance of the Second Amendment, which is why we are here to be your staunch advocate in your time of need.

That being said, if you have been charged with any additional gun crimes, you are most likely now facing serious legal ramifications that could land you behind bars for years. That is why you will need the assistance of an experienced New York criminal defense attorney. Some of the most common types of gun crimes, and their potential penalties, are as follows:

  • Possession of an unlicensed firearm: This is a felony, and can warrant years in jail.
  • Possession of an assault weapon- All assault weapons brought into New York after the ban on assault weapons took effect are illegal, and can result in a felony.
  • Sales of firearms- If you are someone who has been caught selling a firearm either improperly or without a license, you are most likely now facing felony charges.
  • Transporting firearms through the state- New York law enforcement does not uphold the federal Firearm Owners Protection Act. Because of this, if you are caught as a non-resident transporting firearms through NYS, you may be detained or arrested.
